REDDIT SUPER BOWL “SPOT”
2020
TV | PR | Social
When the Gamestop and r/WallStreetBets story blew up in the press, Reddit wanted to find the right way to give a shout-out to the community. Even if the gains were short-lived, the community had proven that David could in fact take on Goliath. We came up with an ad that reflected this disruptive spirit just in time for it to disrupt the 2021 Super Bowl. It was the first time a standalone 5-second ad had ever run. And it was definitely the first Super Bowl ad to be concepted, created, and delivered in one week.
response
Because the spot was basically a print ad that flashed on the screen, only way to view it was to pause your DVR. This was by design. People flooded social with photos of their TVs, and we were ready to respond, directing them to a brand post on Reddit where they could get the scoop behind the stunt. Even avid Redditors liked the spot…and they hate ads.
